How It Started

I’d love to share a little from my heart with you. Even if you were a teensy bit interested in what life is like as a direct seller with Avon and or Tastefully Simple, keep reading.  It is seriously one of the best decisions that I’ve ever made!  Here is my story and how it started. 

It started about 25 years ago.  I know! It seems like a long time, but to me it feels like yesterday!  I was working in my career of choice, a job I loved. Unfortunately, the economy at the time was not doing all that great and the company I was working for was cutting back and I got laid off.  I was, as expected, shocked and surprised.  A little background, I am originally from New York, and as you can imagine, this is not a city where you can wait to find income!  As I was walking to the subway to catch the train to go home, I passed by an Avon store.  In the window, there was a sign that said something about earning extra income almost immediately.  Well, that got my attention!  I found myself opening the door, speaking to the person who greeted me.  She explained the basics of the business and  that is was only $7.00 to start.  Yes, you read that correctly!  I filled out the paper work, handed over the $7.00 and I became and Avon Representative and owner of my own business!   

I came home, told my family what happened and happy to say, they supported my decision to become an Avon Rep.  Now, please understand, I did not become a millionaire overnight.  I knew that growing my Avon biz would take time.  And I was still on the hunt for another job in my chosen field.  But while I was looking, I gave myself the opportunity to earn some income as well.  I did manage to find another job but kept my Avon biz.  As a matter of fact, I was able to get new customers via my co-workers!  So that extra income became a little fun money for me.  I was able to treat myself to a movie, feed my book addiction (yes, I am a bookaholic), and even add some extra money to help pay off some of my bills.

However, not long after, I found myself in a new state, as my mom went on a health journey and I had to move in with her to help with some of her medical needs.  Thankfully, she recovered fully, but I found myself in a new place and different way of making a living.  I did not have the opportunity to continue in my field of choice, so found myself starting completely over!  I ended up working in the educational space and then with a local supermarket on the weekends.  Not my favorite way of making a living, but you do what you gotta do, right!?  Then it dawned on me!  I have my Avon biz!  I’ve been treating it like a hobby, but if I treated it more like a business, I can leave one of my jobs.  I had 3 at the time.  Well, I focused on that and was able to leave my weekend job at the supermarket.  Yay me! 😊

25 years later, I’ve grown my biz, shared the opportunity and working toward Boss Life. I’ve even had the chance to walk the stage at our last conference! Talk about exciting!  Oh, and I’m the gal in the pink hat!

So by now, I am sure some of you are wondering, “Where does Tastefully Simple fit in?”  I’m glad you asked! 😄  I was on Facebook and saw a post about easy meal prep and how you can even earn income from this.  I found this very intriguing as I am the resident cook for my family and was always looking for ways to make meal prep simple. And if I can make a little money from this, all the better!  I contacted the person who posted it, we had a chat and I signed up.  Now, I have to say TS is a very different type of biz from Avon.  It is “party plan” based and I was not at all familiar with this concept.  However I did find a way to make it work for me, and while Avon is my #1 biz, Tastefully Simple did and continues to fill a need that not only supports my meal planning, but also gives me the opportunity to serve those clients who love the products like I do. This allows me to enjoy what Tastefully Simple has to offer, which is meal planning and prep, awesome seasonings, sauces and easy to make desserts! And as a consultant, I get to take advantage of the discount and earn some supplemental income.  You could say that I am a “Kitnapper”!  😂 I am fortunate that I have found a company that helps me with my meal planning, help others to do the same and earn extra income.  I consider this a Win/Win!
